Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)

At the heart of AMD’s new office is a design philosophy of "humble but bold" – a concept that balances understated elegance with moments of vibrancy. The space is grounded in neutral tones, soft timbers and biophilic elements, creating a refined backdrop. In contrast, bold pops of colour define key destination areas such as collaboration zones and breakout spaces, injecting energy and focus into the workplace.

A strong sense of local identity is embedded in the design, with Cambridge-inspired graphics and artworks, giving the space a distinctive sense of character. To ensure the office felt aligned with AMD’s global brand guidelines and suited to its surroundings, we made subtle adjustments to the colour palette, maintaining brand consistency while creating a fresh, locally-inspired aesthetic.

The ground floor atrium serves as the social hub, prominently reflecting AMD’s brand and its connection to the Cambridge location. This vibrant, functional space enhances collaboration and social interaction, addressing a key gap in their previous office, which lacked a dedicated a breakout area.

The workplace also includes versatile spaces such as a flexible meeting room that can double as a yoga or event space. In addition, dedicated mother’s, prayer, and recreation rooms – complete with pinball machines – enhance the overall workplace experience.

For a technology-driven company like AMD, seamless IT infrastructure is the backbone of their operations, supporting critical functions such as data processing, global connectivity, and real-time collaboration with teams worldwide. The IT communications rooms were an essential component of this project, reflecting AMD’s reliance on advanced technology to drive its operations.

We delivered a state-of-the-art server room, equipped with cooling chambers and a refrigerated walkway, ensuring that AMD’s global communications infrastructure remains robust and reliable. Through careful planning and execution, we guaranteed uninterrupted service and ensured that the IT systems met the highest standards of precision and performance – hallmarks of AMD’s excellence.

Acoustics were another key focus, as AMD’s teams often engage in sensitive and confidential discussions, requiring a workspace where ideas can flow freely without the risk of being overheard. The original space featured poor sound insulation with perforated ceilings. We reconstructed rooms to ensure confidentiality and added acoustic panels, especially in the atrium and collaboration zones, creating a quieter, more productive environment.
