Introducing Project Positive

Project Positive is our commitment to tackling climate change and creating meaningful social value – not just on paper, but on every project we deliver.

There’s no getting around it – climate change is a crisis. Businesses have a responsibility to do better, and at Area, we’re going beyond reducing our footprint. We’re designing and delivering projects that cut carbon and make a lasting, positive impact on people and communities.

This initiative supports our clients to make projects more sustainable and socially impactful. It also gives us a platform to demonstrate our shared commitment to making a difference.

Working with Ecologi

We’ve partnered with Ecologi, a climate platform that helps us measure, reduce and remove the carbon impact of our projects.

From the start of each project, we carry out a full life cycle assessment. This lets us account for every element of the carbon impact – and gives us a baseline to improve from.

We’re not just focused on our direct (Scope 1 and 2) emissions. With our clients, we’re tackling Scope 3 as well – through smarter material selection, efficient design, and a collaborative approach to offsetting and carbon removal.

Through Ecologi, we can build bespoke carbon portfolios tailored to our clients’ values – whether that’s reforestation, renewable energy, or advanced technologies. And everyone gets access to their own live dashboard to see the real impact over time.

Making a Social Impact

Project Positive isn’t just about the planet – it’s about people, too.

We’re inviting our clients to collaborate with us on social initiatives that reflect their values. That could be charity partnerships, local community engagement, wellbeing projects – whatever makes a genuine difference.

These partnerships sit within our wider Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework – but more importantly, they reflect what we believe: that business can be a force for good.

What Project Positive looks like

01.

Truly Carbon Neutral Projects

Every Area project is now backed by climate investment – that’s our baseline. We’re designing for low impact, prioritising reuse, and removing any remaining carbon. Here's how:

  • Reusing and repurposing materials on-site wherever possible

  • Choosing low-embodied carbon materials

  • Designing for longevity, flexibility and future reuse

  • Offsetting what we can’t avoid, through trusted carbon removal schemes

02.

Go Further with Carbon Removal

In addition to carbon avoidance we also advocate for the investment in carbon removal as part of every fit-out – and we invite clients to match our investment if they want to take things further.

This isn’t just about compliance. It’s about doing the right thing and showing leadership on sustainability.

03.

Building Better Communities

We want our work to benefit the communities we work in — not just during the project, but long after.

We’re keen to collaborate on projects that support local causes, community wellbeing and social progress. If you’ve got a goal in mind, we’ll help make it real.

Together, we can:

  • Go beyond ESG tick-boxing to create real social value

  • Deliver fit-outs that are low carbon and high impact

  • Leave a lasting legacy that speaks to your brand values

Project Positive is about making sustainability part of the way we work – not an add-on, not a checkbox. It’s how we make sure every project we deliver does some good, for the planet and for people.
