When Dexcom began planning its next chapter in the UK, the team chose to relocate to Bracknell, Berkshire – a growing business hub with strong transport links and a fast-developing commercial community.
Their new home, Maxis Business Park, offered more than a change of address. Maxis is a fully electric campus with strong sustainability credentials, including BREEAM Excellent, an A-rated EPC, and 100% renewable energy, supported by on-site solar power and extensive wellbeing-led amenities. It’s a modern setting for a business built on innovation, health and technology.
Dexcom is a global healthcare technology company specialising in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems for people living with diabetes. Their wearable devices provide real-time glucose data, helping users better manage their condition and improve long-term health outcomes.
Dexcom asked us at Area to create a workplace that reflected who they are – a company rooted in innovation and wellbeing – and one that would feel connected to both their global identity and the local environment.
Our work with Dexcom began with a comprehensive evaluation of three potential buildings. We tested how each option would support their operational needs, future growth and workplace culture. To understand their global design language, we visited one of their flagship offices. This gave us insight into how spatial layout, materiality and brand expression shaped their identity.
Rather than replicate their head office, our aim was to extract the principles that made it successful and reinterpret them for the Bracknell context. The result is a workplace aligned with Dexcom’s global brand while responding authentically to its UK setting.
The design concept is structured around nature. We developed a zoning strategy inspired by Bracknell’s surrounding landscape, from forest to meadow to lake. This approach helped create a subtle journey through the space, influencing how people move, gather and focus, while reinforcing a clear sense of identity.
Dexcom’s brand is confidently expressed throughout the space: their signature green and plum tones are integrated with intention, adding vibrancy and recognisability while sitting comfortably within a broader, natural palette.
Finishes were carefully selected from UK-based suppliers with strong sustainability credentials, echoing the tones and textures of the local environment, playing an important role in strengthening this nature-inspired narrative.
Working in collaboration with 360 Workplace, the project included a fully integrated workplace technology solution designed to align with Dexcom’s global AV standards and provide a consistent user experience across all meeting spaces.
The solution was built around Crestron Flex collaboration systems, Jabra video conferencing and Biamp audio, ensuring high-quality meeting room performance while allowing centralised management through Crestron XiO Cloud.
The project also included digital signage and an immersive corridor experience using LG video wall displays powered by BrightSign media players to communicate the Dexcom brand and messaging throughout the workplace. You can read the full technology case study on the 360 Workplace website.
Employee wellbeing and acoustics were central to the layout. All glass partitions were double glazed to help manage noise, and breakout and meeting spaces were deliberately positioned to minimise disruption to focused work zones.
Natural daylight was optimised throughout the office, recognising its vital role in supporting mood, productivity and overall wellbeing. Dedicated private spaces were introduced in response to client feedback, addressing a specific need for areas where employees could take calls or work quietly.
Together, these elements create an environment that balances collaboration and focus, while promoting comfort and wellbeing across the workplace.
