We are proud to announce our recognition as a Business Champion for the Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) Co2nstruct Zero Programme. This achievement reflects our commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 within the construction and design industry.

As a certified B Corp, we understand the importance of working with purpose beyond economic performance. We prioritise the need to tackle climate change, the most significant threat facing our planet. Joining Co2nstruct Zero aligns perfectly with our mission to limit the impact of anthropogenic climate change through purposeful and measurable actions.

A Focus on Carbon Reduction

The Co2nstruct Zero programme is focused on nine key priorities, divided in three categories, Transport, Building, and Construction Activity. These priorities address the entire lifecycle of construction projects, emphasising aspects such as carbon measurement, energy efficiency, and the adoption of sustainable technologies.

Our commitment to sustainable practices aligns with Co2nstruct Zero’s priorities, which include implementing carbon measurement, designing out carbon from our projects, and enhancing energy performance in buildings.

Carbon Measurement for Informed Decision-Making
We are committed to measuring carbon emissions as a critical step toward making informed, quantifiable decisions that reduce environmental impact. This data helps us set achievable targets, track progress, and demonstrate our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

Our goals include:

  • Recording design impacts on both embodied and operational carbon.
  • Training Non-Domestic Energy Assessors to drive improvements in operational energy performance.
  • Advocating for rating schemes like NABERS and EPCs to ensure positive energy performance outcomes.

Designing Out Carbon
We aim to become a leader in designing projects with minimal carbon impact. As part of our Project Positive initiative, we have implemented internal processes, including a carbon calculation methodology to accurately assess and mitigate the environmental impact of every project we undertake.. This flexible approach prioritises efficiency while minimising additional workload and ensuring long-term adaptability. Our more detailed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) enhances accuracy and facilitates product/specification comparisons based upon environmental impact.

Enhancing Building Energy Performance
We ensure sustainability considerations are factored into all our designs, aiming for high energy efficiency standards. We prioritise the use of energy-efficient heating, cooling, and ventilation systems to improve the operational carbon performance of our projects over time.

Short and Long-Term Goals

We hold ourselves to high standards of governance, transparency, and environmental impact. We monitor our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, report annually to the Climate Disclosure Project (CDP), and use our Science-Based Target initiative (SBTi) goals to guide our journey toward Net Zero. Through these commitments, we are continuously identifying ways to lower emissions, whether by specifying low embodied carbon materials or designing out carbon across all stages of a project’s lifecycle.

Engaging Our Supply Chain

We are constantly involving our supply chain in our commitment to sustainability by encouraging our partners to meet minimum environmental standards, including transportation policies and waste management practices. For example, our supply chain are recognised for offering buy-back schemes or Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which help us promote a circular economy and reduce material waste.

Overcoming Industry Challenges

Balancing sustainability goals with cost considerations presents a challenge for many businesses, and we are no exception. However, by investing in new technologies, materials, and processes, we are utilising innovation to meet the evolving needs of our stakeholders.

A significant innovation we have introduced to make a difference in our industry is a holistic approach to sustainability throughout the project lifecycle — from inception to disposal. By designing with renewable resources and energy-efficient technologies, we are striving to lead the way in sustainable construction practices. Learn more about our Sustainability services.

We are excited about the opportunities ahead as part of the Co2nstruct Zero Programme. Through continued innovation and collaboration, we will continue to push boundaries, meet our sustainability goals, and demonstrate leadership in carbon reduction across the construction industry. This achievement is just one step in our broader journey toward a more sustainable future, and we remain committed to delivering lasting value for both our clients and the planet.
